How can I enable aging on the sims 3?

I know this question has been asked many times. But I’m having a problem. I go to options the sims lifespan bar is faded out and the enable aging botton is faded out making me unable to choose that option.. I’m using riverview as my town.

then type in
aging = on

I don’t think the town makes a difference, but I have had it faded it out before, but that’s when I’m not in game play. Go to options in game play and that should work!
