is it incorrect to refer to tannins when describing the effects of oak barrel aging onchardonnay?

asked:

I was researching for a report and read that aging wine in barrels adds vanilla, butter flavors and wood tannins. and that malolactic fermentation helps to tame the harsh oak tannins. I was corrected by my manager who said that white wines do not have tannins. Is this correct. if so why is it that only red wines have tannins?

White wines generally don’t have tannins but that is because they’re generally not aged in oak.

Aging in oaks does offer a variety of flavors, but it’s not consistent. You may get so much wood this time, but you may not get it as much next time.

White wine doesnt have tannins..Red wine has tannins.
The oak causes it, and the seeds in the red grapes.
