What percent of aging is sun damage?

blueJay asked:

I heard it was 80%. I remember reading it somewhere but I can’t remember where and I need someone to confirm or deny that. Other than sunblock, what else can I do to take better care of my skin and my body in general?

You can’t answer this question because everyone has a different exposure to sunlight. It depends on where you live and your lifestyle. Just remember that baking in the sun for hours is not good for your skin and that it will age you. Who needs percentages?

I don’t know the percentage, but people say you look about ten years older than you are by the time you reach 50 if you are sun baked.
Sun block doesn’t completely eliminate damage, but you should always wear it. Stay out of direct sun between 11am and 3pm. (cover the babies in cotton or other natural materials when they are in the sun.)

I am blond and very fair skinned and suffered a lot of sun damage. Then I learned this great trick by chance. I first thoroughly massage an essential oil into skin – I like olive, almond and grape seed – and just lightly remove any excess with water and tissues, then I apply an spf 15 sunscreen on top. The oil acts as a barrier so the harming ingredients do not contact skin. Surprisingly, it is equally, if not more protective, as I spend many hours in intense Mexican sun with only one application and no other protection – not even a hat and I never burn or even tan.
